POST OFFICE TOWER DEMOLITION WORK. ' (“Times-Age” Special.) At the Carterton Post Office the flag staff and the dome have been removed and work is now being carried out in removing the bricks and concrete. The public and school children are warned of the danger they run in loitering in the vicinity of the Post Office while the work of demolition is going on. The work of repairing chimneys in the Carterton borough and district is being carried out as fast as possible. Preference is being given to houses where there are old people and children living. WOMEN’S WAR SERVICE COMMITTEE MEETING. At a meeting of the committee of the Women’s War Service Auxiliary held in Miss Wolters’s office, there were present Mesdames Ji. E. Ordish (in the chair), A. F. Pink, W. H. Hall and Miss O. W. Wolters. An apology for absence was received from Mrs F. L. Barr. A vote of thanks was passed to the League of Mothers and the Patriotic Committee for free suppers supplied to soldiers. The presideht reported that a further 35 camouflage nets had been despatched to the proper quarter, making a total of 43.
Correspondence was read in connection with enlisting women for home service in the Navy, Army and Air Force and it was stated that applica tions could be obtained from either the president or the secretary. Football. The Carterton B football team to play Masterton on Saturday afternoon is: Hurndell (2), Potter, Rzoska, Chapman, Ireland, Catt, Pankhurst, McPhee, Phelps, Lenihan, Martin, Aplin, Up*ritchard, McKenzie. Shop Day. St. Mark’s Ladies’ Guold will hold a shop day in the band room at Carterton, on Friday in aid of the Guild and Church funds. Produce, cakes, etc., will be obtainable. Boy Scouts. The annual meeting of Carterton and district citizens who are interested in the Scout movement will be held on Monday night, a 7.30 o'clock at the Scout Den in High Street. Personal. Private Ross Hawker, son of Mr E. H. Hawker, has returned to New Zealand from overseas. Private W. Shirley, son of Mr and Mrs W. Shirley, of Lincoln Road, has been invalided home from overseas. Mr Meyer, of High Street, while covering a damaged chimney at his residence after the recent earthquake, slipped on the roof of the dwelling and fell heavily, fracturing a shoulder bone. Mr Chas. Diamond, formerly of Carterton and now of Hastings, is visiting relatives in Carterton. Railway Worker injured. A fractured leg was received by Mr Harry Herrick, a married man, 28 years of age, of Carterton, j r esterday, when his foot became caught between two railway lines. Mr' Herrick, who is an emnloyee of the New Zealand Railways, resides in Wyndham Street. He was conveyed to the Masterton Hospital. His condition is satisfactory.
