REGENT THEATRE
“PIMPERNEL SMITH.” Germany in its pre-war arrogance is the setting for masterly acting by Leslie Howard in “Pimpernel Smith, which will be shown tonight. Smith, a professor of archaeology, makes a holiday hobby of getting out of Nazi concentration camps outstanding men of the times who have endeavoured to forward true civilisation and freedom. Refined English humour, sardonic and misleading _ only when dealing with Nazi bullies, is at its best in this excellent film. With six of his pupils on a “walking tour,” Smith’s coolness and subtle planning carry him through incredible adventures to release five invaluable men who would otherwise have been lost to the world. That he finds a wife in the effort adds to the piquancy of a remarkable production. „ „ , n An interesting “March of Time will also be shown.
