HOCKEY

WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION GAMES ON SATURDAY. FAIRLY GOOD DISPLAYS. The weather and ground conditions were not very good for hockey at Lansdowne on Saturday. Nevertheless some fairly good exhibitions were witnessed. In two of the men’s games there was a win-margin of one goal. No. 8 team had their first win of the round when they defeated No. 5 team at the College grounds. The junior ladies’ game was evenly contested, the winners, Excelsior, possessing better combination than Sincerity, who committed many breaches of the rules and lacked understanding when in good positions for attack.

RESULTS AT A GLANCE MEN. No. 4 team 1, No. 7 team 0. No. 2 team 2, No. 6 team 1. No. 8 team 5 No. 5 team 2. No. 1 team won by default from No. 3 team. SENIOR LADIES. Excelsior 6, Greytown 2. Wairarapa College 3, Kia Ora 0. Carterton a bye. JUNIOR LADIES. Excelsior 3, Sincerity 1. SENIOR LADIES GREYTOWN v. EXCELSIOR. This senior ladies’ fixture produced some very good hockey and although Excelsior won by a comfortable margin, Greytown played a good game. The team having only ten players the defence was to an extent handicapped. Miss Keltie on defence and Mrs Mead on attack played well for Greytown, while Excelsior, with the exception of a few players, were all on their game.
