TANKS & GUNS

BETTER TYPES POSSESSED BY ALLIES. STATEMENT BY U.S. ORDNANCE CHIEF. (Received This Day 12.10 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 5. Major-General Levin Campbell, Chief of Army Ordnance, declared that American tanks and guns participating in the Battle for Egypt were definitely superior to the Nazis’ weapons. He added:. “Type for type, our tanks have heavier guns, heavier armament and greater speed. The German 88-mil-limetre dual-purpose gun, which is credited with much of Rommel's successes, is limited in its effectiveness. We have outmatched this gun with several of our field and anti-tank guns.”
