WELFARE LEAGUE
MEETING IN MASTERTON. ACTIVITIES DURING JUNE. The monthly meeting of the Womens National Welfare League was held yesterday afternoon in the Midland Hotel, Masterton. Those present were: Miss Kummer (in the chair), Mesdames S. J. Munn, A. W. McKenzie, L. Hunter, G. G. Tolhurst, S. N. Kilgour. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames R. Whyborn, H. E. Pither, S. Fletcher, R. C. Drummond, H. P. Harrison, Misses Vallance, Bellis and Boddington. At the request of Miss Kummer members stood in silence for a few moments as a mark of respect to members who had recently suffered bereavements. Miss Kummer also expressed sympathy to those who had suffered loss in the recent earthquake. Mrs Tolhurst reported on visits paid to the Masterton Hospital, during June. The visitors for July will be Mrs L. Hunter and Miss Kummer. Mrs Carruther reported that owing to the A.N., Club, Wellington. However, a hamper A.P.A. Club, Wellington. However, a hamper would be despatched early next week. Mrs McKenzie reported on social welfare cases assisted during June. A discussion took place in connection with the appointment of a delegate to the Clothing Committee of the Red Cross Society, the matter being eventually held over for a larger meeting to deal with. Miss Kummer reported that the League had been hostesses to the Anzac Club for four nights, and thanked all who had contributed to the supper, etc., on those occasions.
