MOTOR VEHICLES

DECREASE IN REGISTRATIONS. ISSUE OF DRIVERS’ LICENCES ALSO DOWN. Some motorists who are still using their vehicles have failed to re-register their cars or to take out new drivers’ licences. No doubt the events of the past week or so have caused some delay in registering on the part of those who intend to keep their cars on the road but this is not likely to excuse them if they continue to use their cars without registering them. Motorists would be well advised to take the necessary steps immediately, as they are more than likely to be apprehended if their vehicles are not registered. The Masterton Post Office has registered to date a total of 2128 motor vehicles, as compared with 2548 in the corresponding period of last year. This is a decrease of 420, though it is likely that the actual decline will be even less than this when the full figures are available for the present month. It appears that most motorists are re-re-gistering their cars, in spite of the uncertain outlook for petrol and tire supplies. The issue of drivers’ licences is also proceeding fairly briskly. The Masterton. Borough Council has issued 1204 licences so far and the Masterton County Council 580. In the corresponding period last year the borough issued 1451 and the county 770 licences.
