REGENT THEATRE
“PIMPERNEL SMITH.” The picture programmes at the Regent Theatre will be resumed tonight. Germany in its pre-war arrogance is the setting for masterly acting. by Leslie Howard in “Pimpernel Smith,” which will be shown tonight. Smith, a professor of archaeology, makes a holiday hobby of getting out of Nazi concentration camps outstanding men of the times who have endeavoured to forward true civilisation and freedom. Refined English humour, sardonic and misleading only when dealing with Nazi bullies, is at its best in this excellent film. With six of his pupils on a “walking tour,” Smith s coolness and subtle planning carry him through incredible adventures to release five invaluable men who would otherwise have been lost to the world. That he finds a wife in the effort adds to the piquancy of a remarkable production. An interesting “March of Time” will also be shown.
