TURF TOPICS

One of the best trials at Trentham yesterday was six furlongs by Boloyna (A. E. Didham), and Duncannon (A. Anderson), run in 1.22 2-5, the last half-mile m 54 2-5. Duncannon had a little the bettei ot the dosing stages of the trial, but Boloyna was. not kicked out. Boloyna has rapidly shed the surplus he was carrying at Awapuni and is ready to show his form. Duncannon made friends by his display. He is to be ridden in the Whyte Handicap by P. Atkins. Yogi (B H. Morris) had Lambourn (J. Campbell) as a mate over seven furlongs at Trentham yesterday. They kept together and ran the distance in 1.37 2-5. Yogi has developed into a real horse and must be given a great chance in the Whyte Handicap, even though he is best suited by longer distances. The Wellington Steeplechase candidates Clansman (D. J. Burgess), Ballybrit (A. Leach) and Master Lackham (C. Burgess.) provided the best trial at Trentham yesterday. Clansman jumped cleverly at the initial fence to gain the lead, and he held the advantage throughout. He will be ridden by D J Burgess tomorrow, and he looks in great nick. He handled the going well yesterday Ballybrit schooled well, but made a slow jump at the last fence. Master Lackham gave the other pair a start, but he was dosing on them in the half-mile run home on the flat. His trainer states that he has developed a splint and he is not keen to run him. but Mr Easton wants the horse to race. Mr Easton won the even in 1918 and 1922 with Master Strowan.
