SALE AT ADDINGTON DEMAND FOR FAT SHEEP. CATTLE PRICES ADVANCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH,, July 1. At Addington the fat sheep market was the best of the season, especially for wethers, which formed the bulk of the yarding. There were many sales between 45s and 495. One line of 61 two-tooths ranged from 39s 10c! to 45s lOd at an average of 44s 6cl. On an average throughout the sale good wethers advanced by 3s to 3s 6d a head and good ewes by 2s 6d. The best price for ewes was 37s- 4d. There was only a small yarding of store sheep, and, with buyers from southern districts, the demand was very keen. Best quality ewes found ready, buyers, the best price being 26s 6d for a pen of 65 two-toohs. Four, six and eight-tooths fetched 265. In the wether section a small pen of two-tooths realised 25s and two and four-tooths fetched 245. Some good lines of wether lambs met good competition, and a substantial rise on recent rates was recorded. Prices for best pens ranged from 19s 7d to 20s 7d, medium from 14s 3d to 17s, and inferior from 10s to 13s 9d. In the fat cattle some exceptionally prime lines came forward from various parts of Canterbury, and the demand from the outset was keen. Values for prime steers were advanced 20s on average rates last week. Good heifers were also up 15s a head, and average to medium cows by 10s a head'. One line of 17 steers averaged £lB 13s 7d. top price being £l9 7s 6d. Another line of rising three-year-olds averaged £lB 17s (id and nine heifers averaged £l4 9s 6d. Best beef ranged from 42s to 44s per 1001 b.. a few' special lines to 455; good 39s to 41s 6d, ordinary 35s to 38s 6d, inferior up to 295. Values for porkers remained at last week’s high level. In the bacon section good-quality pigs met with spirited competition. Values showed little change. The chopper entry was an extra heavy one, and though competition was fairly keen values were easier by up to 20s a head. Baconers, average price per lb., 7d to B’/nd; porkers, B'/id to 9%d. MASTERTON SALE FAT STOCK MAKE LATE RATES. STORE VALUES EASIER. The Associated Auctioneers report as follows on their stock sale held at Masterton yesterday There was a small attendance of buyers. The yarding, owing to the present local conditions, was smaller than usual. Prices in the fat stock section were according to quality, equal to late rates. In-lamb ewes comprised most of the entries in the store section and values were easier, owing mainly to lack of competition. The following are prices received: — Fat stock; Fat wethers, 30s; fat ewes, 17s 7d to 18s 3d; fat lambs, 20s 3d. Store stock: 5-yr. ewes, r.w. S.D. ram. 21s 3d; store ewes, Ils, 12s, to 15s; w.w. lambs, 18s 6d.
