CARTERTON
AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE MESSAGES OF SYMPATHY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Carterton Borough Council has received messages from the GovernorGeneral, the Prime Minister and the Mayor of Wairoa expressing sympathy with the Mayor, Councillors and residents of the borough in connection with the earthquake.
ENGAGEMENT GREEN—FINLAYSON. The engagement is announced of Joan Rita, second daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Finlayson, Christchurch, to Stanley William John, second son of Mr and Mrs S. G. Green, Levin, formerly of Carterton. Personal. Mrs Sowman, of Wellington, is visiting Carterton and is the guest of Mrs C. K. Goodin. Rifle Instruction. On Monday evening last Messrs C. J. De Lacey, L. A. De Lacey and Gordon Goodin commenced the tuition of soldiers in rifle shooting on the miniature rifle range. These arrangements were made by Army officials some time ago. It is intended to take squads twice a week for instruction. Other members of the Miniature Rifle Club will help in the training.
