FIRE FIGHTERS
ARRIVAL OF CANADIANS IN BRITAIN. LATEST ADDITION TO WAR EFFORT. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.20 a.m.) RUGBY, June 30. The first contingent of a corps of Canadian fire fighters arrived in Britain and received a warm welcome from the Minister of Home Security and from London crowds in Trafalgar Square today. While preserving their identity as a corps, the Canadians will be under the control of the National Fire Services. In a speech, Mr Morrison spoke of Canada’s contribution to the war effort. Canadian troops, he said, were one of the main bulwarks of Britain and in duo time would be one of the main spearheads of attack on the enemy. The Canadian Navy had grown from fifteen ships to 400. Canada had also made a magnificent contribution to the air training scheme and to the production of munitions and planes. Mr Vincent Massey, Canadian High Commissioner, said the firemen were going to take part in the defence of some of the most important cities and towns in Britain.
