ARMY WEEK

CELEBRATION IN CANADA. UNITED NATIONS UNITS TO PARTICIPATE. OTTAWA, June 26. During the coming week Canada does honour to her gentlemen in battle dress, to nursing sisters and to members of the Canadian Women’s Army Corps. Each day is set aside for some specific purpose. Monday is soldiers’ day, when the public is 'invited to send gifts to men overseas and to entertain men at home. Tuesday is civilians’ day when civilians are asked to prepare meals on a food ration system and restaurants to serve meals identical with those served to Canadian soldiers. Dominion Day will see garrison parades and special military demonstrations. July 4 is set aside as a special United Nations Day. Large celebrations are planned in Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa. In Ottawa it is expected that the King of Greece, the Governor-General and the Prime Minister will take part. Detachments of United States forces are to participate in the cities mentioned. Units of the United Nations training in Canada are to participate in special programmes. The remaining week days are devoted to enabling Canadians to learn first hand various phases of army activities. Army Week closes on July 5 when the public is invited to attend church services in army camps and barracks where special prayers will be offered.
