ESSENTIAL SERVICES
SPECIAL COMMITTEE FORMED. A special committee, consisting of Messrs R. W. Kebbell, J. W. Colquhoun and R. H. Brewerton, has been appointed by the Wairarapa Primary Production Council for the purpose of substantiating and making appeals for retaining the services of essential farmers, farm workers, carriers and contractors. Those who desire to appeal are requested to communicate with any member of the committee.
Frost in Masterton. A frost of 3.2 degrees was registered in Master ton this morning.
E.P.S. Sanitary Squad. The Sanitary Squad of the Masterton E.P.S. will not meet on Thursday night as originally intended. Fire at School.
An alarm of fire was received by the Wellington Fire Brigade from the Mt. Cook School yesterday afternoon. The fire was found to have its seat in some rubbish under the floor of one of the classrooms, and was extinguished with bucket pumps.
“Waiting for Early Doors. “I do not know whether he was waiting for the early doors,” said counsel for a defendant who was stated in Wellington S.M. Court yesterday to have been found in a condition of helpless drunkenness on the steps of the Magistrate’s Court building in Wellington at 8.15 p.m. on Friday last. It was stated that defendant, who suffered from a duodenal ulcer and heart trouble had been drinking brandy as a restorative after which he had a “complete black-out.”
