Free French foreign and colonial infantry, fresh from their great stand at Bir Hacheim, clashed with Vichyite sailors from ships now lying idle in Alexandria Harbour, says the "Exchange Telegraph’s” Alexandria correspondent. The battle was of short duration, after which the sailors, many of whom were sorry sights, were confined to their ships until the Frfee French leave the town. Many of the sailors were impressed by the fighting qualities of the Free French and decided to join them.
