TWO-DAY BATTLE
NAZI FAILURE TO TURN SOVIET FLANK. BOTH SIDES MASS TANKS & INFANTRY. (Received This Day, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 28. A full-scale German attempt to outflank the Soviet southern flank in the Kupyansk sector failed after two days of violent fighting. Beth Russians and Germans threw in masses of tanks and infantry, covered by planes. Air battles raged almost incessantly and infantrymen frequently fought hand to hand. ' The Germans first attacked on the morning of June 26. They were rolled back to their original positions during the evening. The Germans again attacked at dawn on- June 27, under cover of an intense artillery barrage, hurled in fresh reserves and captured several villages. The Russians coun-ter-attacked and recaptured the lost positions. The battle continues.
