AND WAR DAMAGE FUND MR CUNNINGHAM’S SUGGESTION. PRIME MINISTER’S REPLY. Yesterday Mr J. H. Cunningham, General Manager of the W.F.C.A. Lid., despatched a telegram to the Prime Minister, Mr P. Fraser, suggesting that he favourably consider reimbursing in full or part, out of the War Damage Insurance Fund, the cost of renovations resulting from the earthquake. Today Mr Cunningham received the following reply from the Prime Minister:—“War Damage Fund, under provisions of relevant Act, must be reserved for war damage and only amount available for earthquake relief is surplus, if any, remaining after the war. Financial assistance where necessary will be afforded to repair earthquake damage and suggest that you see Treasury officer at Town Clerk’s office.” THREE CHIMNEYS DOWN ONLY LOSS REPORTED AT PONGAROA.
