IMPORTANT CONFERENCES IN WASHINGTON RUSSIAN AND CHINESE REPRESENTATIVES. PARTICIPATING WITH PRESIDENT & MR CHURCHILL. (British Official Wireless.) (Received his Day, 10.45 a.m.) RUGBY, June 26. It was stated today at the White House that President Roosevelt and Mr Churchill conducted extended and most important conferences with the Soviet Ambassador (M. Litvinov) in the current formulation of a grand strategy to win the war. The President’s secretary (Mr Early) .also disclosed that while Messrs Roosevelt, Churchill and Litvinov were conferring, simultaneous conferences took place between military, naval and air force officers of Britain, the United States and Russia. Russian participation in the conferences was revealed by Mr Early when he was replying to questions concerning the importance attached by the White House to a conference between Dr. Soong (Chinese Ambassador), Mr Roosevelt and Mr Churchill yesterday, in which Dr. Soong requested more support for China. Asked whether the Russians had joined in the earlier discussions with Messrs Churchill and Roosevelt, Mr Early replied that the Russians had figured in the discussions from the beginning and were still doing so.

ARMS PRODUCTION EXPANSION IN UNITED STATES. (Received This Day, Noon.) LONDON, June 26. Washington figures, released by President Roosevelt disclose that the United States is on its way to achieving its production goal. Last month, 4,000 planes were built, jnore than 1,500 tanks, 2,000 anti-tank and other guns, exclusive lof anti-aircraft guns, and those mounted on tanks. The output of machine-guns exceeded 50,000 and, of all types of this weapon, over 100,000. President Roosevelt said: “This is no time for the American people to get over-confident. We can’t rest on our oars. We need more and will make more.” AUSTRALIA’S EFFORT GREAT WAR~FACTORIES BEING BUILT. (Received This Day, 1 p.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. The Minister for the Navy and Munitions stated on Friday that Australia will achieve a one hundred per cent war effort at the New Year. He revealed that a number of gigantic munitions factories were in course of erection throughout Australia and would make the country one of the major supply centres for defence and equipment.
