TARARUA POWER BOARD MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times- Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Tarawa Electric Power Board Mr P. Davies presided, there being also present Messrs J. B. Carruthers, W. Britland, Thos. Fouhy, E. W. Cheetham, S. J. Judd, C. T. Richardson, and L. Johnston. Apologies for- absence were received from A. W. Bisset J. G. Brechin, and P. S. Page. On behalf of the Board Mr P. Davies conveyed congratulations to Messrs J. B. Carruthers, A. W. Bissett and E. W. Cheetham on being re-elected chairmen to the Eketahuna, Pahiatua and Mauriceville County Councils respectively. His remarks were endorsed by the other members. A motion of sympathy to Mr J. A. Nash, of Palmerston North, on the death of his wife, was carried. Mr Nash has now been president of the Power Boards’ Association for some years. An urgent appeal was received from the Electricity Controller for the Board to do what it can to get its consumers to conserve electricity whereever possible as the position was serious. A copy of the regulations prohibiting the use of electric radiators in all shops, offices, factories, warehouses, halls, theatres and other places of amusement between the hours of 4 and 6 p.m. during May, June, July and August in each year on any day except Sunday was received and it was left to the management to see that the regulations were carried out. Mi’ Carruthers gave notice of motion to move at the next meeting to amend the resolution passed at a previous meeting that an electric' water heater would not be installed unless a wiredin range was being installed or was already installed, to enable the Boqrd to deal with any cases that it considered exceptional. It was decided to circularise all those consumers who previously had had their electricity meters read monthly to advise them that in future the meters would only be read every second month but that an assessed account would be sent out in future for the month in between. This procedure has been adopted so as to use less petrol and motor tyres, and also to utilise •some of the meter time for other work. The Treasurer’s financial statement for the two months ended May 31 revealed that total cash received amounted to £8,028, made up of £6,366 from electricity, £1,556 from trading department and £IG6 from miscellaneous. Expenditure during the same period amounted to £6,325. The total gross sales of electricity to April 30 amounted to £2,011, being a £7 increase on the same month last year. Gross trading sales for the two months ended May 31 amounted to £792, being a decrease of £904 on the same period last year. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs H. M. Simpson, Rongokokako have returned home after having visited Wellington. Mr J. Fredericksen spent a few days with his parents, Mr and Mrs Fredericksen, Anderson Street. i Mr Maurice Carter, Feilding, has been on a visit to his mother, Mrs A. S. Carter, Anderson Street.
