MASTERTON SALE

FAT WETHERS MAKE LATE RATES SPIRITED DEMAND FOR HOGGETS. The Associated Auctioneers held their weekly sale at Masterton yesterday. The yarding consisted of some 1000 sheep, and 80 head of cattle, a fair attendance of buyers being present. In the fat sheep section, wethers made late rates, but fat ewes showed an easing tendency. Hoggets sold to spirited bidding. The prices for good ewes r.w. Southdown rams, indicated a firm ing in values. A nice line of 4-year-olds on account of Tinui Station made 25s Id. The cattle which came forward on account of Clifton Grove met with keen local competition, the 31-year P.A. steers realising £9 10s. The following will indicate values: — Fat sheep: Fat wethers, 28s 6d, 29s 7d, 29s lOd, to 30s; lighter sorts, 26s 3d, 27s 4d, 28s; fat lambs, 20s, 24s 6d, to 25s 9d; fat ewes, 17s 4d to 17s 7d. Store sheep: Four-year ewes, r.w. Southdown rams, 25s Id; m.a. ewes, r.w. Southdown rams, 19s 4d to 235; sound-mouthed ewes in lamb, 15s 6d; 6-year ewes in lamb, 14s; shorn w. face hoggets, 15s 6d to 16s 8d; b.f. hoggets, 15s 4d; w.w. lambs, 14s. Cattle: 3J-year P.A. steers, £9 10s; fat cows, £7 to £8; forward cows, £5 Is; store cows, £3 7s 6d to £4; Jersey heuers, r.w. mill, £5; Jersey veaiers £3 Is; 1 3-year filly broken to saddle, £8; swamp plough, £3O; heading deg, £l3.
