The brick front of the gasworks collapsed and at the hospital chimneys were damaged. Nearly every chimney in the town is level with the roof, at the school all the chimneys were damaged and the school is closed today. Minor damage was done to the Post Office. The hotel bars are a mass of broken bottles and glassware. The premises and stock of Mr A. G. Peterson, chemist, were badly damaged. MILITARY MOUNT GUARD. Shortly after the earthquake struck Greytown the Army offered its assistance which was gladly availed of, and soldiers mounted guard all night in the business area.
