X=RAY PICTURES

OF BULLETS PASSING THROUGH GUN BARRELS. AND OF PROJECTILES STRIKING ARMOUR. Plans to X-ray the flight of bullets while they .are still inside the rifle and machine-gun barrels were announced recently by the American Westinghouse Company, with Government approval. The pictures will be taken at Frankford Arsenal in Philadelphia with X-ray cameras which snar> pictures in millionths of a second, -whose production was announced a few months ago. Twin cameras will be used, taking two shots of the same bullet at different stages of its flight. These are said to be the first pictures to be made of bullets in motion inside the gun barrels. Pictures are also planned of bullets at the instant of impact on armour, showing details of their penetration in steel. The announced experiment is limited'to not larger than 50-calibre projectiles.
