TALE OF A SHIRT

WAR TIME EPISODE IN BRITAIN. FOUR MONTHS TO GET COLLAR FITTED. The tales of queues, coupons, and other war measures are numerous and this is a tale of a shirt, writes a London correspondent. A man went to his haberdasher to get a collar sewn on to a shirt. Owing to War conditions the wholesale firm which did this sort of thing had split itself into various departments located in different places. The customer called regularly once a week and received periodical bulletins as to progres. The shirt started by going to the north of England and thence back to the south. After a few weeks delay he was told that the job had been done but he had to send the necessary coupons. Having sent these he was informed that they could not be accepted because with them he had sent coupons for other garments. When this had been rectified he eventually received his shirt with collar attached—from a department in the west of England.' The whole transaction took over four months.
