REGENT THEATRE
“HONKY TONK." “Honky Tonk,” will be finally shown tonight. “BIRTH OF THE BLUES.” Probably no screen star of the present time has a greater right than Bing Crosby to the leading role in such a melange of music, old and new, as “Birth of the Blues,” the musical comedy to be shown at the Regent Theatre tomorrow night. There is a strong flavour of “Alexander’s Ragtime Band” about the production, for in much the same way as “ragtime” music superseded the orthodox in melody, so the “blues” are shown coming to the fore as the basis of much in modern music. Bing Crosby finds his role as a pioneer in “blue” music much to his liking and capacity, and with Mary Martin, Brian Donlevy, Rochester, and Jack Teagarden and his band, keeps the show going with a swing throughout. There is an excellent array of short subjects.
