IN ATTACK ON SEBASTOPOL
Russians Inflicting Very Heavy Losses NAZIS NO LONGER ABLE TO LAUNCH OFFENSIVE ON WHOLE FRONT ACCORDING TO THE SOVIET PRESIDENT LONDON, .lime 21. Under pressure of numerical superiority, Soviet troops at Sebastopol have withdrawn to intermediate positions in one of the sectors, exhausting the enemy’s strength and inflicting heavy losses as they withdrew. The situation at Sebastopol remains tense as the enemy increases his pressure with fresh troops. The “Red Star” states that the Russians have completely routed five German divisions and two Rumanian divisions. Writing in the Izvestia the Soviet President, M. Kalinin, referring to the much-publicised German offensive, said: “I can say with confidence that the German army is no longer able to launch a general offensive on the whole front.” M. Kalinin said that the morale of the German troops was low and the presence of SO many Axis allies gave them rather a patchwork effect. “In the last year,” said M. Kalinin, “the Russian people have transformed their way of life and are now fully armed.”
