SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED
GATHERING IN Y.M.C.A. ROOMS. The ladies of Knox Church Social Guild were hostesses at a free tea to about 150 men of the Armed Services at the Y.M.C.A. rooms last evening. The men were welcomed on behalf of the Y.M.C.A. by Mr Campbell Sutherland, representing the board of directors. Mrs G. W. Morice, president of the Social Guild, also extended a hearty welcome, expressed the pleasure the. members of the guild had in being privileged to entertain the men, and trusted that everyone present would enjoy themselves. The Y.M.C.A. field secretary, Mr David Campbell, representing the National Council, was present and conducted the devotional period. A special feature of the gathering was the entertainment provided by members of the Bth Field Ambulance Band, an instrumental quartette by Ptes. Morris (euphonium), Williams (Ist cornet), Vivian (2nd. cornet), Hunt (tenor horn), a song with guitar accompaniment by Pte. Park, and a song by Band Sergt. Laurence. Miss Masters ably assisted at the piano. In returning thanks Sergt. Lawrence expressed the men’s appreciation of what was being done for them by the ladies and the Y.M.C.A. The music for the community singing was played by Miss M. Iveson.
