GREYTOWN
GUESTS OF HONOUR SERVICEMEN ENTERTAINED. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a large attendance at the Town Hall last evening when Sergeant Pilot Jack Smith and Able Seaman Brian Haigh were guests of honour. The Mayor, Mr A. W. Horton, extended good wishes from the citizens of the town to the two young men, who were, he said, worthy sons of the early settlers in the Wairarapa. Mr J. F. Thompson spoke on behalf of the Football Club. Miss Higginson, president of the local branch of the R.S.A., wished them good luck, and,, on behalf of the Citizens’ Patriotic Committee, presented each of them with a fountain pen. Mrs Alex Johnson apologised for the absence of Mrs Beu, president of the W.D.F.U., ana asked each guest to accept a parcel of woollen goods. The music for the dancing was supplied by an orchestra and Mr S. C. Shedden was M.C. LEAGUE OF MOTHERS MONTHLY MEETING. Mrs Arch Clark presided at the monthly meeting held in the Parish Hall on Thursday afternoon. Dr. Sarah Mulholland, of the Health Department, gave a very instructive talk on “How to treat a patient from shock.” “Rendering first aid,” and “How to stop bleeding.” The hostesses were Mesdames F. Haynes, R. P. Hardy and T. Hardie. Personal Items. Misses L. and J. Hearsey, of Palmerston North, are visiting Greytown, and are the guests of Mrs H. G. Carter, McMaster Street. Leading Aircraftman and Mrs J. Alexander arc the guests of Mr and Mrs G. S. Maloney. TOWN HALL EXCELLENT COMEDY. The outstanding comedy, “Caught in the Draft,” will be shown tonight, with Bob Hope and Dorothy Lamour in the leading roles.
