THE GERMAN ONSLAUGHT ON SEBASTOPOL

Ten Enemy Divisions Engaged WELL SUPPORTED BY TANKS AND HEAVY ARTILLERY DEFENCE LINE STILL UNBROKEN LONDON, June 18. The Axis offensive against the Russian fortress of Sebastopol seems to have reached its peak. Tanks, infantry, heavy artillery and aircraft are being used against the defences. Ten enemy infantry divisions are said to be engaged. The Germans claim that hand-to-hand fighting is going on two miles from Sebastopol Harbour. Russian reports speak of the increasing force of the attack and the extreme gravity of the situation. The defence line is still unbroken. The Russian Fleet is shelling the German positions and helping to maintain the flow of supplies to the beleagured city. Minor landings were attempted by the Russians south-east of Sebastopol and at another point north of Kerch. Some marines actually landed on the Kerch Peninsula. On the Kharkov front the Russian line is believed to be intact. _ . The Supreme Soviet in the Kremlin today ratified the treaty between Great Britain and the Soviet Union.
