Enemy Attacks Repelled in Positions Covering Tobruk

k ROMMEL ATTEMPTING TO ENCIRCLE PORT 1 AND FORTRESS MORE DETAILS OF SEA AND AIR BATTLE LONDON, June 17. * General Ritchie’s forces are still stubbornly resisting attacks to the south of Tobruk. The three main British positions guarding Tobruk—Acroma, El Adem and Sidi Rezegh—are holding all enemy attacks. A correspondent states that the situation has not seriously changed in the last 24 hours. Acroma threw back all attacks yesterday. Fighting is taking place in the neighbourhood of El Adem. The enemy’s thrust east towards Sidi Rezegh was obviously a move to strike out towards the coast and so complete the encirclement of Tobruk. The German column of tanks which by-passed El Adem was met by a strong’ Allied force and was broken up. The R.A.F. played a big part in the operations.
