CARD EVENING p - COMFORTS FOR SOLDIERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Ladies’ Soldier Comforts Committee held its fortnightly card tourney on Saturday evening in St. Cuthbert’s Hall. There was a good attendance. The flags of all the United Nations, including the Stars* and Stripes, were artistically arranged in the hall. Mr L. C. Christie conducted the games. Miss M. Anderson, president of the Borough Ladies’ Soldier Comforts Committee presented the prizes to the following winners: —Ladies: Mesdames W. Cittadini and N. Liardet. Men: Messrs L. C. Christensen and R. Fafeita. A savoury supper was served. The committee hits sent to local soldiers overseas 371bs. of cigarette tobacco, one pound for each soldier. Three non-smokers have been sent the usual food parcels. United Nations’ Day. An impressive sermon was preached by the Rev. G. E. Williams in St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church last night to a large congregation. An appropriate sermon was preached by the Rev. D. McNeur, of Masterton. There was a large attendance. Personal. Mrs Henson Senr., Kaipororo, is a patient in the Pahiatua Hospital.
