Darwin had its first raid for six weeks yesterday, and the sixteenth since the war began. A headquarters communique says:— “Darwin: Twenty-seven heavy bombers escorted by 12 to 15 Zero planes attacked an aerodrome, causing slight damage. Our interceptor planes shot down one enemy fighter. We lost one plane. “Rabaul: In a light raid an Allied flight scored hits on an aerodrome and the dock area. “New Ireland and Simberi Island: An Allied air unit successfully attacked enemy shipping.”
