RETAINED IN BRITAIN. MR LAKIN’S SUBSTANTIAL MAJORITY. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, June 11. The Llandaff and Barry by-election resulted: Cyril A. Lakin (Conservative), 19,408 votes; R. Mac Kay (Independent Socialist), 13,753; M, Paton (Independent)), 975. Conservative majority, 5,655. No change. Mr Paton loses his deposit. Mr Lakin is associate editor and literary editor of the “Sunday Times. His voice is frequently heard in New Zealand in 8.8. C. commentaries. The by-election was held in many quarters to be a test of the attitude, of the public to the party truce. In the previous election P. M. Munro (Conservative) retained his seat, securing 29,099 votes, against C. Ellis Lloyd (Labour)), who polled 27,677 votes.
