IN THE LIBYAN BATTLE AREA t Germans Thrusting North Towards Road to Tobruk MET BY STRONG ARMOURED FORCE FRONT DEFENSIVE LINE SHORTENED LONDON, Juno 12. In Libya the Allied forces are engaged with three strong enemy armoured columns thrusting northward in the direction of the coast road running to Tobruk. The enemy attack was first made in the night, between Bit Hacheim and Harmat. The column was met by our armoured forces. Agency messages state that a running fight has developed. The 8.8. C. observer reports that our force which, met the enemy thrust was a strong one. Our front line has been shortened and warfare in this area may now become more open. The R.A.F. yesterday heavily attacked enemy motorised units in the Knightsbridge area. Two Messerschmitts were shot down.
