A new vaccine, giving immunity against influenza for twelve months, has been developed by Dr. F. M. Burnett, a well-known authority on virus diseases. Announcing this, the Minister for the Army (Mr F. M. Forde) said that experiments on 120 Army volunteers had proved that the vaccine was effective and harmless. Thousands of troops in camps had been innoculated on a voluntary basis and the early results were satisfactory. The final results would decide, whether the treatment should be expended to troops all over Australia. The Minister said Dr. *Burnett had prepared his vaccine from the main viruses which were Known to be the cause of influenza. It was introduced into the body by spraying the nose and throat. Troops could be innoculated •at the rate of a thousand per day., The vaccine afforded protection only against true influenza, which should not be confused with colds, sinus trouble and ordinary nose and throat ailments.
