RUNAWAY CABLE CAR

ALARMING EXPERIENCE. INCIDENT IN DUNEDIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, June 1. Passengers on the 4.30 p.m. cable tram from the city to Kaikorai today had an alarming experience when the car became partially out of control on the steep grade leading down to the Kaikorai Valley terminus. As the tram gained momentum a girl aged 13, who was one of the seven passengers, apparently jumped from the car. She was taken to hospital suffering from concussion and abrasions. The city corporation transport manager, Mr W. H. Mackenzie, said tonight that though the tram hit the turntable at the end of the line with considerable force, the' indications were that it had been brought partly under control again. Nothing more could be said, however, till further inquiries were made.
