GENERAL GRANTS

MONSTER AMERICAN TANKS GREAT PART IN LIBYAN BATTLE. HAVOC WROUGHT ON PANZER DIVISIONS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.0 a.m.) RUGBY, June 2. “Monster American tanks known as General Grants took a very active part in the battle of Knightsbridge, spitting fire in all directions with 75 millimetre and twopounder guns,” says an agency correspondent with the Eighth Army. “Their share in the havoc caused to the panzer divisions was very great, while they blew up the lighter Italian tanks as if they were toy balloons. These tanks had to be completely overhauled and remodelled to operate in desert warfare.”
