GREYTOWN

AGRICULTURAL CLUBS ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age”, Special.) The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Boys and Girls’ Agriculture Clubs Association was held at Grey town last evening. Mr L. A. Keats presided and there was a good attendance of delegates. The annual report stated that the past year had been a most successful one. The entries had fallen from 462 in 1940 to 391 for 1941. This was partly due to the benzine restrictions. The quality in the stock section had been highly praised by the judges. Thanks were expressed to Messrs G. H. Perry & Co. for their valued help in supplying seeds and manures, to all who had assisted and also the Press for giving publicity to the Association’s activities. The balance sheet showed a credit of £8 Ils 9d. It was reported that during the year the Education Board had made a grant of £32 to the association. Mr G. H. Perry had donated. £1 Is and Mr J. Bradbury a cup. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr G. H. Perry (reelected); president, Mr L. Keats (reelected); vice-presidents, Messrs McLaughlan and A. George; secretary, Mr-E. L. Rayner (re-elected); auditor, Mr G. S. Maloney. It was decided not to hold championship competitions this year but that each group make its own arrangements for school and group competitions. In view of the war situation school competitions are to be encouraged to the fullest- extent. The round seals are to be awarded for school competitions and the championship seals for the group competitions. In the lamb competition it was decided that the lamb must be taught to lead. Colour or sex are not to be taken into consideration by the judges. No trimming is to be allowed in any competition. The root crop competition is to be confined to the growing of carrots. Hockey. ! In their games on Saturday the Greytown team, playing one short, gave a good exhibition of positional play generally. Thanks to sound work by the backs and to good movements among the forwards they were able to defeat the E team by 4 goals to one. C. Anker gave quite a good display at right half. He was well supported by W. Trotman at centre half and McKenzie at left. Dauber and Jury proved a solid defence, placing their clearing shots nicely. I. Trotman is improving in his play'. Gallon and Brabender on the wings, did very well indeed. Of the E team, the goalie was an asset, stopping innumerable shots at goal. The C team beat the B team by 6 goals to nil. The ladies’ game between the Greytown and Carterton teams was a dour struggle. The local ladies maintained a territorial superiority throughout but found the Carterton defence of a very solid type. Kia Kaha scored very early in the game and from then on the game resolved itself into a duel between forwards and halves on the one side and half-backs and full-backs on the other. The referees during the afternoon were Messrs L. Gallon, W. Everett, Pte. I. Keltie and G. Maloney. TOWN HALL ’ TONIGHT'S PROGRAMME. One of the most thrilling and brilliantly acted dramas ever brought to the screen, “City of Conquest,” will be shown tonight. James Cagney and Ann Sheridan are seen at their best in this powerful story.
