DR. EVATT’S FAREWELL GOOD MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING. BRITAIN AND THE PACIFIC DOMINIONS. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, June 1. The Australian Minister for External Affairs, Dr. Evatt, in a farewell message on the eve of his return to Australia, said: “I am now satisfied that the British Government and people keenly appreciate Australia’s position and viewpoint. Everywhere, there is a greater awareness of the necessity for removing the enemy’s threat to Australia and New Zealand. For my part, I have a clear picture of the immensity of Britain’s war effort, and the courage and steadfastness enabling her people to save the world in the dark days of 1940. “The British Government has agreed to certain of the proposals I placed before it on behalf of the Australian Government. Obviously, I cannot discuss these in detail, but I can say that they express the determination of Mr Churchill and the Government to strengthen our defences and overthrow Japan. The kinship of all British peoples and the comradeship of all the United Nations will surely give us victory.” “This ,is a world war,” declared Dr. Evatt, “and it must be fought as a world war. We must never underestimate the Japanese again. We must never rest till, we push them back and release our brothers in captivity.
