Following upon yesterday’s communique which described the situation on the battlefront as “not unfavourable to the British forces," h morning’s dispatches from ar Cairo report that furious fighting continues, much of it concentrated on the two gaps through the British minefield by which Rommel hopes to get his supplies. i A message from Cairo says that Rommel is reported to have turned westward in an attempt to fight his way out through the vast minefields round the Eighth Army’s strongpoints. Many of his armoured units are already ringed by British tanks and guns, which are attacking from all sides. General Auchinleck, Commander-in-Chief Middle East, yesterday sent thr» following message to the Eighth Army: “Well done indeed, Eighth Army! Stick to it; hang on to him; never leave him',”
