BATTLE WILL BE WON
GENERAL RITCHIE’S MESSAGE TO TROOPS. CAIRO, May 31. Lieutenant-General Ritchie has issued an order of the day stating: “I send to all ranks of the Eighth Army this message. Because we have commenced a great battle, much depends on all of us. Great trials lie before us till this battle is won, as won it will be. But to win it will not be enough. Nothing short of utter defeat of the enemy is sufficient, and this we and our sister services will achieve. Great calls will be made on your strength, but I know you will meet them, as before, with disregard in the common cause of achieving victory.” LULL OVER MALTA ONLY SPORADIC ATTACKS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 30. The recent lull in enemy air activity in. Malta continued last night and today. Only scattered bombs were dropped during the night by a few bombers, and no bombs were dropped today.
