Increased successful air activity by the Allied ah’ force in the South-West Pacific area is announced in today’s communique, which states: “Our air force executed a night bombing raid against the harbour of Dilli (Portuguese Timor). Direct hits were made on buildings in the target area. Our air force again attacked Rabaul during the night. Bombs were dropped on the wharf area, starting two large fires. All the planes returned. “Our fighters intercepted 18 Zero fighters 60 miles south-east of Port Moresby, and in the ensuing combat five of the enemy planes were shot down and three damaged. One of our planes is missing.” HEAVY DAMAGE DONE ATTACKS ON ENEMY BASES IN SOLOMONS. MELBOURNE, May 31. The successful series of Allied night raids on Japanese-occupied bases is continuing. Today’s Allied headquarters communique says that in Tulagi, in the Solomons, an enemy seaplane base was attacked on Friday night by our air force. The fires started, which destroyed fuel dumps, wharves, and adjoining buildings, were visible for 80 miles. An enemy flying-boat was destroyed and anti-aircraft guns at Tanamboga and Gavutu were silenced.
