WAR PRISONERS
ABOUT 70 NEW ZEALANDERS IN SINGAPORE DETAILS NOT YET AVAILABLE. CONDITIONS IN GERMANY & ITALY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government has been informed by the International Red Cross that there are approximately 70 New Zealanders prisoners of war in Singapore, states the Prisoners of War Inquiry Office; Details are riot yet available. Letters from prisoners in Gerrnany are now coming through fairly freely, sdme posted as recently as the middle of March. A further cablegram regarding coriiplaints from meh ih Italian carnps has been received from the international Red Cross, which says immediately it is informed Of camp strengths it has regularly supplied food, clothing and books to Italian camps. It cannot act until such information is received. Excluding 30 listed as unofficial, the prisoners of war total how on the files in Wellington is 6129.
