FIGHTER SWEEPS
OVER NORTHERN FRANCE TWO FOCKE-WULFS SHOT DOWN. NIGHT FIGHTER DESTROYS ENEMY BOMBER. LONDON, May 29. Fighters were out over Northern France today from dawn to dark. Planes swept over the St Omer area. When a German force of 15 to 20 Focke-Wulfs came up to meet our planes, two of the enemy machines were sent crashing to earth. Later another sweep was made over St Omer but this time the Germans remained on the ground. This evening squadron after squadron of fighters was seen flying out across the sea. The aircraft divided into two formations, one disappearing in the direction of Dunkirk, while the other seemed to be making for Boulogne. One of our planes failed to return from the first sweep of the day. Attacks by a few night raiders on Britain caused slight damage and no casualties. A British night fighter destroyed an enemy bomber after chasing it 100 miles out over the North Sea.
