CRIPPLED CHILDREN SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING. ACTIVITIES IN PAST YEAR. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa branch of the Crippled Children Society was held yesterday afternoon, the president, Mr S. L. P. Free occupying the chair. Moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, Mr Free referred to the fact that everyone was extremely busy with work connected with the war but in spite of that the. executive had met regularly and had given detail attention to every case on the society’s files. The fact that the welfare officer had called at least twice in the year on every case, of which there were 115 on the register and. had travelled over 1000 miles by car in visiting the cases, showed that the work was being' very well looked after. Mr Free paid a tribute to the keenness, enthusiasm and interest in the crippled children of the district shown by the welfare officer, Mrs Kilgour. The travelling clinic had proved most successful and would be continued unless war time measures prevented that course. 'Although the expenditure appeared to be small, it was no criterion of the work done, owing to the generous assistance given by many helpers and supporters, which enabled a lot of work to be done at very little cost. Although it was impossible to thank all who had helped, Mr Free said he wished to make special reference to the work of the chairman of the executive, Mr. E. M. Hodder, the welfare officer (Mrs Kilgour), and to the secretaries, Mr L. F. Gray, who was now overseas, and Mr H. A. R. Dunderdale, all of whom had carried out their tasks to the entire satisfaction of all concerned. Seconding the motion, Mr E. M. Hodder stated that through the financial assistance of hospital boards, doctors and others and Social Security arrangements, the expenditure did not reflect the total cost of the work carried out by the society. Its principal work would tend, as the years went by, towards training and helping to rehabilitate children and in this very little cash was expended but a great deal of thought, time and work was involved. He congratulated Mrs Kilgour on her work. Mr R. C. Drummond said the society’s work for the year had been very good and. they were indebted to Messrs Free, Hodder, Dunderdale and Gray and Mrs Kilgour for their services. Mr Free was re-elected president. The mayors of all boroughs and the chairmen of all county councils in the Wairarapa Hospital Board's district, the chairman of the Hospital Board and of the Wairarapa and Tararua Electric Power boards, besides Messrs E. M. Hodder and R. C. .Drummond were elected vice-presidents. Other officers elected were. —General committee: Messrs R. C. Drummond, W. A. Michael, F. L. Price, L. Robinson. E. R. Rogers, P. F. Fagan, N. Lee, F. E. Wells, G. G. Hancox, S. E. Burridge, Mesdames J. Caselberg, Arch Clarke, J. VI. Perry, H. E. Pither, S. L. P. Free, T. W. Wardell, Misses K. Kerins, E. V. Cocker and Nurse Craig. Executive committee: Messrs E. M. Hodder, S. L. P. Free, R. C. Drummond, L. Robinson, Mrs H. E. Pither, Miss K. I. Craig and Nurse Cocker. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr D. B. Curry for his services as hon. auditor. He was re-elected to that position.
