BRITISH FIGHTER PLANES IN ACTION TOLL TAKEN OF ENEMY SQUADRON. NAZI BOMBER SHOT DOWN NEAR COAST, LONDON, May 27. R.A.F. fighters were out again in a sweep over Northern France today. German mine-sweepers off the Dutch coast were also attacked. Fourteen Messerschmitts tried to pounce on two Spitfire Squadrons, ' but they made for the clouds as soon as they in turn were dropped upon by other Spitfires above them. One of the Messerschmitts was too late and a short burst of fire broke it in two. Later, a second Messerschmitt was seen spinning down, but clouds prevented our pilots from seeing it crash and it could only be claimed as probably destroyed. One of our fighters is missing. ! A German raider on the south coast of England this afternoon was shot| d|oWn into the sea.
