IN CONDUCT OF NAVAL OPERATIONS SINKING OF TWO ITALIAN CRUISERS. BRITISH OFFICERS DECORATED. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 26. A brilliant night action in the central Mediterranean in which two Italian cruisers and an E-boat were destroyed and a torpedo-boat damaged, without loss to ourselves, has brought distinction to three officers who took part. Commander G. H. Stokes, D.S.C., who commanded the Sikh, is appointed a
C. 8., for great skill and enterprise. For similar conduct, Commander R. E. Courage, D. 5.0., D.S.C., receives a bar to the D. 5.0., and Commander R. F. Jessel, D.S.C., receives the D.S.O. Other awards gazetted include a bar to the D.S.O. for Commander A. St. Clair-Ford, D. 5.0., for skill and enterprise in action against enemy submarines while serving in a destroyer, the D.S.O. for Captain J. H. F. Crombie, for skill, daring and resolution in command of British minesweepers in northern waters, and to Captain R. K. Dickson for daring skill and endurance while mine-laying in the Manxman.
