COSY THEATRE

“THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO.”

There are few romances as thrilling as “The Count of Monte Cristo,” a film version of which will be screened tonight. Robert Donat has the role of the Count, the sailor captain who, after spending years in prison through the dastardly machinations of those he thought his friends, makes an amazing escape. Elissa Landi as Mercedes, Louis Calhern as De Millefort, Sidney Blackmer as Mondego, and Raymond Walburn as Danglars form a galaxy of stars who fit the sparkling cavalcade of events to the life. “The Count of Monte Cristo” is one of the most sustained efforts of imaginative creation in literature, but is a presentation of human life in all its phases.
