THEFT OF JEWELLERY

FROM HOTEL BEDROOM IN AUCKLAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 26. Jewellery valued at £435 and other personal property not of a negotiable nature were stolen from a guest’s bedroom in the Central Hotel in the city during the daytime. The valuables were in a dressing-case, which was missing when the owner, Mrs Mortimer Williams, a visitor from England, returned to her room about 4.40 p.m. The bedroom occupied by Mrs Williams is on the second floor almost opposite the lift. She said she had gone out on business about 9.30 a.m., and left the bedroom door unlocked, as was customary. On returning she noticed the absence of the case containing the jewellery, which was insured.
