PARTY ACTION
ADVOCATED BY LORD STRABOLGI AT BRITISH LABOUR CONFERENCE. MR ATTLEE DEPRECATES SUGGESTION. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.50 a.m.) LONDON, May 25. Lord Strabolgi, speaking ?.t the annual conference of the Labour Party, said the Coalition was a failure and the time come when “we must consider whether, in the national interests or in the interests of the whole cause of civilisation, we should not do better t 6 recall the Labour members from the Government and form, in Parliament, a constructive Opposition. “Things have gone wrong since we entered this Government,” Lord Strabolgi added. “We are no nearer winning the war by our own efforts. I believe the whole future of democracy in this country depends on the emergence of a strong Labour Party. If we go on as at present, we shall split the party and lose some of our ablest members.” Mr Attlee deprecated suggestions for a return to party strife as a diversion from winning the war.
