COUNTRY DISTRICTS SUB-CENTRE. MAKING OF PAPIER MACHE SPLINTS. The monthly meeting of the Country Districts’ Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society was held on Wednesday at the Country Women’s Club. Mrs A. C. Gawith was in the chair, and there were also present: • Mesdames K. Groves, L. Nicol, W. James, D. James, De Castro, D. McKenzie, McLean, Wingate, Misses Guild, Creswell, Langdon and E. Rutherford.
The meeting passed a motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mrs W. Andrew and the Misses Brown. A number of interesting letters received from Wairarapa nurses serving overseas were read at the meeting. It was stated that at present the sewing rooms were a hive of industry, a large number of the members being engaged in the making of papier mache splints of many different kinds, and other hospital requirements for the Home Guard, E.P.S. and Emergency Hospital. Members were most grateful to Mesdames Whatley and McKay who came up from Wellington to give them theii first lessons, and to Mrs Kemble Welch who had now taken over the demonstrating- and instructing of this work.
