HUNT FOR MURDERERS

ORGANISED IN MELBOURNE POLICE & MILITARY PATROLS. MEASURES TO PROTECT WOMEN & GIRLS. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) MELBOURNE, May 21. Fifteen detectives are engaged solely on the investigation into the three recent Melbourne murders. They are practically without a clue to help them in the Hosking murder and have made little progress in the first two crimes. The knowledge that a murderer is at large in the darkened city is terrifying Melbourne women. There has been a marked absence of women and girls about the streets at night. Girls are leaving night-shift jobs when they have to walk home alone and some employees are applying for special police to be stationed on all night trams to escort women travellers. Additional military provost patrols are being sent out to assist the police patrols in the city. A cafe with a big night trade is adding a dormitory so that the night waitresses can sleep on the premises.
